Obama: iPad and Xbox Make 'Stupid'

(Our Tech Blog) In a speech to the Hampton University student, President of the United States, Barack Obama warned of the influence caused by the onslaught of the various gadgets in the realm of modern media. Gadget judged to make young people 'stupid' for being out of focus with the information submitted.

According to him, today he described as the era of IPAD and Xbox, there has been a transfer of information that could have disastrous a new tension in an atmosphere of democracy.

"With the iPod, iPad, Xbox and PlayStation, which I myself do not know how to play it, the information turned into a distraction and a form of entertainment, rather than being a tool of empowerment or emancipation," he told the audience as quoted by detikINET from AFP on Monday (10 / 5 / 2010).

In his speech, Obama clearly stated his concern about the quality and direction of the information now disseminated through the magic of technology.

"You're in an environment where the media bombards us 24 hours a day, with a variety of content and all sorts of arguments. Some of these are not always right," he explained.

All this, he added, not only will lead to new pressure on every individual, but also creates new pressures on state and life democracy in his country.

Obama quipped that the media spread the news more often than the political turmoil surrounding other issues are more important, like education.

"We can not stop this change, but we can adapt," he said.
