alent1234May 3, 01:50 PMI don't really get this... You already pay fees for the data - why do they care for how you use it?

that's their profits. texting and tethering. those of us with just the regular service barely pay the bills

same reason why the lower end imacs mbp's are not that good a buy or the GPU's are gimped on them and the $2000 model has the good GPU and 1GB of GDDR5

WeegieMacMar 18, 04:40 PMThis is what I "love" about MacRumors, it's the only Apple fansite where Apple fans, rightly proud of their products, can log on and be TOLD what their opinions should be by rabid fans of other devices, who in turn use the fanboy card to back up their point of view, therefore rendering any reply by an Apple user pointless.

The Android fans are as bad, if not in fact worse, than the iPhone fans on here. The very notion you come to an Apple site to stress your point of view and borderline enforce it to the point of it being accepted as fact, proves as much.

They didn't even put up a small square on their Mac sub-page.

I do hope OS X still has a good 10 years in front of it. The best of both worlds for Unix people.

aristobratJan 12, 07:24 PMHave not watched the keynote. Not going to bother.

I'd like to see a bit more commitment from Apple (the company previously known as Apple Computers) on the computer side before I consider recomending any kind of Mac to people again.
You didn't watch the actual source of all of this information, but yet you feel that Apple might not be committed to the Mac anymore? Oye. Watch the first five minutes of it. :)

I think that those who think that SJ & Apple are beyond criticism merely confirm the excellent points you've raised in your post.
I find that most folks here are very critical of Apple and its products and don't usually hesitate to criticize where they feel appropriate. Just because not everyone participating in this thread don't agree with the OP's opinion that SJ is an arrogant SOB doesn't mean that everyone worships him either.

If all the iPhone mockups out there had missed the mark, the iPhone would be revolutionary, but there were quite a few that were based on the idea of a huge display and no keys.
I missed the markup where the full-screen video iPod was combined with the iPhone into on device.

The modest memory, for one, and for another the absence of 3G which is somewhat of a shocker - 3G has been a staple of top-of-the-line phones for years now.
Welcome to America. We're just now getting 3G (in regards to GSM networks, anyhow).

If not the business market, then who? It can't be kids, as it has no games, and allegedly no support for custom ringtones. It can't be business users, since they'll want Outlook or Lotus Notes sync, and possibly a navigator, and they'll most definitely not want to use frickin' iTunes to sync up. Which leaves, I dunno... Mac enthusiasts and 30-somethings who are hoping for 15 minutes of fame by the watercooler? He did say his goal was 10 million units.[/QUOTE]

Angelus520Sep 7, 10:34 PMI thought it was brilliant. Kanye West released "Late Registration" last week and sold around 860,000 copies to debut at #1 on Billboard so it was perfect timing on both sides to have him perform. He's hot and he's hip, which sounds like a certain computer company we know and love.

Kanye West's Late Registration Tops Albums Chart By A Mile
09.07.2005 11:21 AM EDT

Rapper's second album sells more than 860,000 its first week out.

First, Kanye West wowed the Miami audience assembled at the MTV Video Music Awards two weekends ago with his performance of "Gold Digger." He even walked away with the Best Male Video Moonman. Then, a handful of television talk shows later, West generated national headlines thanks to his appearance on NBC's "A Concert for Hurricane Relief" this past Friday, where he delivered a scathing assessment of President Bush for his response to the devastation and ruin wrought by Hurricane Katrina.

The last week's been quite a doozy for Kanye (see "T.I., David Banner Get Behind Kanye's Bush Comments"), but one that'll be capped off by a crowning achievement: West's sophomore album, Late Registration, opens at #1 on next week's Billboard albums chart, having sold more than 860,000 copies during its first week on shelves. Kanye's debut LP, The College Dropout, entered the chart at #2 the week after it was released in early with first-week scans of close to 441,000.

(For more on Kanye and his album Late Registration, check out the feature "All Eyes on Kanye West.")

West ran away with the week's top honors, outselling the second-place debut from G-Unit member Tony Yayo, Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, by more than 600,000 copies. Late Registration slaughtered Hillbilly Deluxe, the new one from country duo Brooks & Dunn, which claims the chart's #3 slot with more than 111,000 units scanned.

Kanye's Dropout, meanwhile, climbs more than 50 chart positions this week to #57, thanks to a 69 percent boost in sales that yielded scans of more than 9,50

MacRumorsApr 29, 03:43 PMhttp://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/29/apple-tweaks-mac-os-x-lion-ui-in-response-to-criticism/)

With Apple having pushed out a new update (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/29/apple-seeds-new-version-of-mac-os-x-lion-11a444d-to-developers/) to the Mac OS X Lion developer preview program, those with access to the new build have been looking for changes in an attempt to see what Apple has been working on over the past few weeks.

One minor point that caught our eye is a change in the user interface elements for selecting subpanes within System Preferences. In this latest build, the active subpane is denoted by a sunken, darker button that appears as if it has been pushed, as shown in the Expos & Spaces preference pane.

http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/29/162642-lion_subpane_button_new_500.jpg

Current "button" style subpane selector with Expos active
Earlier builds of Mac OS X Lion had used a sort of slider animation where the active subpane was represented by a lighter colored button that confused many users when simply glancing at the pane without attempting to move the slider and thus having the animation to key on.

http://images.macrumors.com/article/2011/04/29/162642-lion_subpane_slider_old_500.jpg

In the face of that criticism, Apple appears to have rethought its mechanism for switching between subpanes and reverted back to a button style that appears more intuitive.

A similar change has been made in iCal, where an earlier slider-style navigator (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/31/mac-os-x-lion-developer-preview-2-brings-new-look-for-ical/) was rolled out to select among day/week/month/year views but has now been replaced by more traditional button-style selectors.

Popeye206May 3, 11:30 PMIMO, until the ipad gets this, which is entirely possible, it will remain more of a toy than a tool, and all these commercials will be nothing but fodder for the haters.

there's nothing wrong with toys, and this is a nice one, but these lines about doctors, CEOs, etc., are just plain ridiculous.

Hummm... hardly from what I've seen. I know in my industry, iPads ares starting to be integrated into production systems for monitoring and control purposes. Plus, I have seen doctors using them.

Yes... they are a great toy. But the portability make them great for light duty tasks in business.

If we get a real file system in iOS 5 with could based storage and sharing, the iPad will get even more important in business.

2 RepliesJul 21, 01:44 PMOh my god...

did Apple seriously just make pointing fingers apart of their campaign?

I thought they were above that!

I understand that it's unfair that the other companies do that and all, but Apple really doesn't need to stoop to their level, do they?

Above that? HA!
Looks like someone forgot about the Mac vs PC ads. ;)

It would be nice if Apple actually ACTED like an adult and not like it's own fanboi. :-\

robogoboMay 3, 05:45 AMThat's the result of modifying the firmware of your phone. If you don't like it, don't do it. Nobody is forcing you to.

I really don't see the point. If you wanted to install your own "homebrew" apps without using the App Store, you can already do so by using "ad-hoc deployment" or joining the Enterprise Developer Program. Either option makes rolling out your own apps simple.

How's the view from under that rock?

Is that really worth breaking compatibility with updates? I don't think so.

If someone does think so, then they can do it... but then it is a bit rich to complain in forums about the need to re-jailbreak every time Apple releases an update.

Must be nice.

notjustjayJan 10, 03:58 PMI've made presentations and I have felt the rush of panicked adrenaline and beads of sweat when my equipment doesn't work exactly as expected or rehearsed. If someone did that to me during a presentation, especially at one so public, I would be VERY angry.

This reflects very, VERY badly on their professionalism. I watched the video. The first few screens that went off was funny and subversive. The rest was just sickening to watch, literally watching a childish prank go on way too far. The fact that we saw repeating shots of the same walls going off (the big wall, the gaming station) suggests that whoever did this went back and did it OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

I did this once at school, but only once, and I was 14 at the time. How old are these guys?!

Gizmodo's press passes should be revoked permanently. There are already enough gadget-tech-blogs out there, I won't miss them.

MammothOct 3, 08:40 PMI'm dreaming for 2 'iPhones'

RAZR Killer: $149, ultra slim. iTunes, iCal, iChat, .Mac, Address Book, Mail, Mobile iWeb, Bluetooth. 2GB flash storage. 2MP camera.
Treo/Blackberry Killer: $299, Treo-like form, full QWERTY, same apps as RAZR killer + 4GB flash storage. 3MP camera.

And of course iTV, Merom updates, and a true video iPod.

SymtexOct 20, 08:15 AMAs long as Sony will use MPEG2 for their blu-ray release, they will fail. The first BD50 release was done last week (Click) and the PQ is still subpar compare to HD-DVD. THere is no excuse for such a poor release.

lordonuthinMay 4, 07:04 PMoh man. that's not good. what flags are you using?

-smp 12?

yeah, -smp 12 but one core now shows minimal use. Before I restarted it it showed 4 cores with minimal usage... I'm going to try tossing the config file and see what happens. And of course it loses the wu each time I shut folding down.

korukiMar 17, 07:57 PMNot bashing android by any means... But my work had deployed me a droid x. I had it for about six months. On average I would say I needed to pull the battery for lock ups every couple days. I had Verizon send me a replacement under warranty and the new one did the same thing.

There's def pros and cons to each platform. I enjoyed the notification system a lot more on the droid. Since then I've switched to an iPhone 4 at work. I have a personal 3GS and have fallen in love with the cosmetic design of the iPhone 4 and the retina display.

About the Lock up, I think most of them don't know we can just do a hard reset without pulling out the battery in the iPhone. Just hold the power and home button down.

I get it a lot too but I just say "nah, this phone sucks it's the worst phone in the world" and they usually shut up.

They shut up because they have an insecurity about their phone and the iPhone 4 is the better phone. Shooting down a better phone makes their phone seem even worse. It's like a double headshot.

I hate to say it again but haters gon hate! It happens with ANYTHING. If you buy a BMW, Audi owners will waltz in saying "SEE MY CAR HAS THIS STANDARD IT'S WAY BETTER THAN BMW!!!!". If you buy a Rolex you get Omega and TAG Heuer owners going "MY WATCH IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ROLEX BECAUSE IT'S CHEAPER AND IT HAS MORE THINGS IN IT!!!".

It's a thing you have to live with if you buy the most popular, top-of-the-line luxury things. If you can afford it, why not buy it?

the whole thing makes my brain hurt because it's so stupid and I don't care if the guy next to me had an Evo or an iPhone 4.

Actually I think its more the people with a turbo'ed Japanese imports that give an earfull to the European car owners. Or the Casio owners who brag how accurate digital is vs the luxury watches. I know someone who had to ask someone for the time cause her Piaget watched was unreadable due to the amount of flares coming from the diamonds inside LOL.. Obviously a fail watch but what you gonna do, sue them?

Jealously is all I can think of =)
