I do agree that the commercial is good in all BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE AT&T has always had great coverage where Verizon did not have any. The only time Verizon has had better coverage was during a Cat 4 and 5 Hurricane which I can live with.

reminded me that I have some degree of comfort that Apple screens apps so that I don't inadvertently download something which is actually a virus, steals passwords and other personal information, or does something else nasty.

Perhaps I am unduly comforted and there is some iTunes fine print that says they don't check for that sort of stuff. Otherwise I would have thought Apple could have used the "safety" aspect in it's marketing, and created some fear for Andriod users around they really know what they are getting.

In that way iTunes aspp store is sort of a big condom for your iPhone - pure protection.

Apple don't look at the source code. One could make a trojan app that sends contacts information back to base after a certain date.

Apple should simply focus on resolving their own issues. It's not their job to be the "tattle tell" police pointing out problems or potential problems with their competitors. The press and/or markets will uncover issues with Apple competitors.

I think you're missing the source of the issue here. The problem you and vast majority of people commenting here have is that anything that doesn't apply to you or interest you is met with hatred and ridicule. Instead of apologizing for overlooking the one use you consider acceptable, apologize for looking down on everything you don't understand and accepting that most things in life have applicability to someone.

But hey, here's another example, from before your post:

This person doesn't realize that iAds aren't just a banner, but can actually contain some pretty complex and varied app-like content. Maybe if they downloaded this they'd learn something.

I don't really see why Apple will never do that. When Jobs said styluses are crap, obviously he didn't mean styluses as writing devices, he meant styluses as the way to interact with OS.
Education applications seem to be of some importance to Apple, and stylus support is pretty much required to make iPad useful for students, for example.

It's been in beta for over a year, meanwhile Apple has been steadily improving their product. Granted, some might feel that Aperture was so bad it should have been beta, but at least Apple took the chance to innovate in this space.

No they don't. They just attempt to copy (often badly), then license universally and flood the market with a lot junk that includes a ton of different models at very low price points.

The boxes were there for me under Firefox and I was under the impression they were supposed to be. However I was pleasantly surprised to find them no longer there last night, so this must be fixed :)

Sounds AWESOME. I usually follow MR plus one or two other popular news or blog sites. I think I recall last year Engadget or one of them has some photos online before the end of the keynote, which was nice.

Well, there are some benefits to being in California where the event is happening.
Still, when the keynote stream first goes online it can be very difficult to watch, probably even if you live in SF. I usually don't end up getting to see the whole thing until later in the afternoon.

Is it possible to download the entire keynote file (.avi) to my hard disk instead of viewing it streamed? Is it possible at all with Safari, or do I need Firefox and some extension/plugin?
No (and it's not an AVI, it's a H.264 encoded MOV). You're going to have to wait for someone to capture the stream and post it somewhere as a downloadable file.

It seems there have been other break-ins in the area and they are hoping to catch the guy (or girl) who has been doing it. Right now, my 360 showing up on my network has been the biggest lead they have gotten because it narrows down the area by quite a bit.
