I really love my iphone and am sorely regretting that i'm going to have to give it up because of att's unacceptable lack of reliable service
Yeah, you live in one of the two cities that AT&T repeatedly admits it's screwed up ... SF and NYC.

A little over two weeks ago, AT&T started turning on 3G coverage on their 850mhz frequency, which has greater range. Hopefully that will impact your service positively.

CanadaRAMJan 12, 12:44 AMWow, I just watched the keynote and my god this guy is hard to stand....
i totally agree with you. "aint that just cool?" "probably the best photo management program in the world" he's was pretty hard to stand.

But you watched. Again.

nospleenJan 11, 11:55 PMI like how you speak for the masses, "something WE wanted". I for one was thrilled with the keynote and I am going to buy the iPhone. Just because you were not happy with the keynote, it does not mean the Keynote was horrible. I would have liked some updates on ilife and leopard too, but they will come soon enough.

tigress666Apr 25, 12:14 PMI actually really dislike the borderless look. I hope they don't do this. A larger screen is one thing I really don't need. If I want a big screen, I'll get an iPad.

Actually, I do think having some border is good, but I don't think it looks bad. In fact, the more I look at it especially compared with the iphone 4, the more I think it looks *better* (in comparison the 4's sides and top and bottom look too thick). Of course it probably doesn't help that's a white iphone (I don't like the white iphone in general).

I think in black I'd probably be neutral between the two (black doesn't look as bad with that thickness I think).

And if they don't change the resolution, I still don't see much point. You're not really getting more screen real estate. I suppose it will be a little easier on the eyes to have bigger text/icons. But would that really make that much of a difference on that front either?

sethypooOct 4, 01:19 AMI really want Apple to announce the iPhone and preview Leopard more. I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and am interested in some new software.

I hope the iPhone comes out with Verizon, as I feel their service is SO much better than Cingular's. And their customer service has been stellar so far in my experience.

rockosmodurnlifMar 28, 04:40 PM1) Do you want to make things that are "insanely great".

or

2) Do you want to make the most amount of money?

Because my understanding of awards is that they are usually given to encourage and reward the best, not the best of a subset, but the best of all.

If the majority of previous award winners are NOT in the app store, it would suggest that these awards will NOT be to encourage or reward the best, but rather as a cynical marketing tool. So what is it Apple, are you cynical marketeers, or are you creators of and encouragers of that which is insanely great?
Are "insanely great" & "making money" mutually exclusive?

The majority of the 2009 winners are not in the App Store per the developers choice. There were no awards in 2010. It's obvious this is Apple's game. If there were an App Store in the majority of those apps would not have won.

whateverOct 11, 12:06 PMIt may kill the first iteration of the Zune, but MS has stated its a multiple years effort they acknowledge its going to be hard to beat the iPod bastion, and if at all possible it will take time. But, I suspect Apple have plenty of different prototypes in their labs, ready to be launched to complement new market demands.
For starters I think it's odd for MS to state publicly that they expect the Zune to have poor sales. Talk about lack of faith in their marketing department. The product is half bad, they should have been pushing this product's launch in commercials and made prototypes available to retail chains in preparation for it's launch. But for some reason, MS has lost confidence in it's marketing team. I bet if the co-branded it with the X-Box product line it would sell quite well. What do you buy the spoil brat with all of the latest X-Box toys, an X-Box Zune. But that's just me.

Microsoft is know for killing a product (see: BOB) after a lackluster launch. Don't be surprised if the Zune fades away.

hayeskMar 26, 08:06 PMHave they thought about including a USB stick in the box as well, for the Macbook Air? I sure would hate to have to buy an external CD drive just to get the new OS on my computer. Will they allow it to be downloaded over the internet?

I'll bet they allow it to be downloaded from the App Store, and boxed copies will only come on USB stick.

leekohlerMar 4, 11:07 AMKeep talking Veil, 2010 was just the 'coming attractions.'

No- you keep talking, please. Please, we beg you to keep trying crap like this. It'll all but guarantee the Republicans' demise. Really, you could not self destruct more beautifully. You're not for freedom at all, just freedom for government and corporations to walk all over their workers. And since you never mentioned the anti-gay addition to this bill, I assume you're OK with that too.

KnightWRXApr 27, 08:08 PMThe only thing that I'm missing is to restart the Timer (or use another one). Invalidating my Timer only pauses it, even = nil or releasing it, my Timer just continues where it left.

What makes you think that ? Once you invalidate a timer, it's done and gone. Look, I implemented a timer that updates on screen with minutes:seconds and it gets reset properly when I invalidate it (take a peek at the screenshot).

A screenshot like this goes a long way. Console output with NSLog to know what gets called and when is even better.

If you posted up the full code of your viewController, we might even be able to point you in the right direction. The more you are specific, the better we can help.

I'm thinking you don't quite grasp what an NSTimer object is. It's not an actual timer as in a chicken timer. It's just an object that's inserted into the run loop, waits for a specificied interval and then calls a method (depending either the NSInvocation or the target/selector you used when creating it). If you set its repeat to YES, it will call this method over and over again at the specified interval.

This specified method (in my screenshot that would be updateLabel) has to do some processing to display minutes:seconds on a label.

longofestOct 2, 03:32 PMThink about this: Apple is in hot water with some European countries for the "monopoly" Apple has with its iPod and iTunes Store.

Could DVD Jon's venture help alleviate some of those country's worries?

-Aaron-

Good point. Of note, I'm not aware of any pending lawsuits against Navio.

Also the article had a decent point. This all could help push Apple's hardware sales (aka, push iTV sales), which are the crutch of it all for Apple. Of course, I'm sure Apple won't be too crazy if hackers end up doing a bang-up job and ruin the experience for the end user (hence the reason why Apple hasn't allowed UI themes in OSX??? Let's not go there...)

JaymesMar 28, 03:16 PMIn other words, it is now more fair to everyone because you just need to be in the App Store rather than having to submit your app specifically to be considered.

In other words, it's less fair to everyone, because you have to fork over $0.30 of every $1.00 you make to Apple in order to be part of the Mac App store just to be in the running for the design award.

It's going to be interesting to see if open-source products win any awards whatsoever this year. In the past, several have brought home awards.

But I digress, as the new Big Brother on the block, I had almost forgot that "Apple knows best".

You're basically bragging that you have $100K in Apple stock. Nice!!!! :D Your faith is being rewarded handsomely...

Two can play at that game. I still have the 400 shares I bought in 1997.

Do the math. :)

HuntnMar 4, 08:54 AMThe bill establishes fines and jail time for those who participate in strikes. Unionized workers could negotiate wages, hours and certain work conditions - but not health care, sick time or pension benefits.

Strikes would be illegal? This is why the Republican Party can never be allowed to lead this country. Land Of The Free my arse. Unions are made up of people who want some control over their professions (whatever it is) and their lives. Conservatives/Republican's will never be happy if lowly workers have some control. They can take what we give them and they'd better be happy with it or else.

megsandbytesMay 2, 10:29 PMwhether this glitch/bug was intentional or not and even if you are not a fan of frequent updates, at least Apple has acknowledged the demand for a fix and those who prefer not to have their location tracked will at least have the option to remove this feature.

macsmurfApr 16, 02:01 AMApple's success is in large part driven by the ecosystem that they have built around iPod/iTunes/iPhone/iPad. Good luck to anyone breaking into that anytime soon. The day I can buy a song on Mac/PC, synch it to my Android phone, then stream it around my home to HiFi or TV then we will have a competitor. Apple knows it, the record companies and studios know it, someone needs to tell Google.

Spotify?

KnightWRXApr 29, 07:24 PMRead my post. I didn't say he was right about them being the same kernal. I simply said he was right about the naming conventions.

The version in question isn't simply the gui version number, but the code base version as a whole.

Windows 95/98 don't share a code base with Windows NT. You are aware that the NT line is a complete rewrite, 32 bit from the ground-up and a completely different kernel/system architecture ?

It's like saying OS X and classic are the same code base...

The Win32 sub-system (which is only 1 sub-system in NT) might share some code, that's about it.

The only way it makes sense is by using the actual version numbers that MS gave us, which are quite easily found. ;) Not only in Windows but in several sources through the net. I'll believe the info MS gives us vs someone from macrumors.

No, because then as pointed out by your MS friend, it would be Windows NT 6.1 ;) Your blog post even says it doesn't make sense, so I don't see how "MS gave you info" when your "source" says it doesn't make any sense.

Again, only way it actually makes sense is from a marketing perspective and as being the 7th release in the Windows NT line-up.

ChundlesSep 12, 12:30 AMThe TV Shows section started out with 5 shows (zero here) and now look at it, there are hundreds of TV Shows for download on iTunes (zero here).

It just takes a few to get it going and once some momentum is established it just keeps picking up speed.

CorvusCamenarumMar 4, 03:56 PMThe conservative side does not seem believe in the "teach a man to fish" crap. They talk about it, but rarely practice it. For them it's more like this, "Go learn to fish, and if you can't afford the education, too bad."

In order to be taught to fish, you first have to want to learn how to fish. Some people don't want to learn to fish.

charlitunaDec 25, 02:56 PMI don't buy the flash argument. Thats actually a pretty complicated subject...

Well yes, there's the whole "Adobe doesn't make Flash for the Mac, they make it for Windows and lazily port it" stuff. But that's actually part of the point. Apple values the user experience more than following the herd. So they leave out some crap port of Flash rather than include it because 'all other phones have Flash so we have to also, even if it sucks'

Now, can anyone please explain what the difference between 'true 4G' and LTE?
Is LTE something else entirely? Something that bridges the CDMA and GSM technologies, allowing CDMA phones to use chips, and chip-based phones to be compatible with CDMA networks?

My understanding is that LTE is a whole new language, totally different from both CDMA and GSM. So phones would be, for a time, dual chips.

As for the 'real 4g' and 'fake 4g' I've been told that it is not unlike the HD video issue that has cropped up thanks to folks like itunes and Amazon. They use 720p video which is high def when compared to standard def, but purists say that HD is 1080p/i or higher.

In the same way there is 4g in the sense of 4th generation which is an improvement over the 3rd generation. and 4g which is 4th generation AND a particular minimum level of speed etc. And so say the naysayers, many folks saying '4g' mean the former and not the latter.
