(Our Tech Blog) Before Call of Duty and Battlefield, we have Counter Strike and boy did it shape the FPS industry from what it is today! Likewise, the whole franchise wanes off after its last release: Counter Strike: Source. As of today, we just received a confirmation that Valve is now working on a new CS project and it’s called as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS GO).
This news was still a myth yesterday not until several leaks were spotted on the gaminsphere about players who manage to take a glimpse and play the game for real. Currently, Valve acknowledge this title and aside from PC, expect it to support PS3 and Xbox 360 which you can download via PSN & XBLA respectively.
CS: GO will be developed by Valve along with Hidden Path Entertainment and the team plans to stick with all the things that makes Counter Strike so great in the early 2000s including new maps, characters, weapons, without forgetting those classic CS content like de_dust and many more! Likewise, since we’re already at the dawn of a new decade, expect this game to take advantage of the internet by introducing global matchmaking, up to date leaderboards, etc.
Its PR statement is quite short but Valve didn’t forget to mention the popular history behind Counter Strike – bagging the title as the “most played online PC action game in the world on 1999” and how it shaped first-person shooting games today.
Expect its release date to be available on 2012 and enthusiasts will be able to get their hands-on at PAX and Eurogamer Expo this quarter. Interestingly, the team also said about “next gen consoles” instead naming them “Xbox 360 / PS3” could this mean Counter Strike: Global Offensive will be available on Xbox 720 or PS4?
