New iPhone 5 details leaked

(Our Tech Blog) There was online excitement earlier today as a video was posted onto YouTube, then swiftly removed, showing parts for what appeared to be an as-yet unreleased iPhone, which has been speculated as the Verizon version or iPhone 5. It was put up by Global Direct Parts, and showed some components on an unrecognised iPhone, prompting wild speculation on its origin and which iPhone version had been leaked.

The clip was swiftly removed from YouTube as it violated Apple copyright, but many were still able to see the video which had a narrator describing components for what it described as ‘iphone 5’, and contrasting them with those from the previous version. The narrator only speculated on whether the parts were designed for a new iPhone or a Verizon CDMA version, but did make direct contrasts between this version and the most recent release, iPhone 4.

The main visible differences between iPhone 4 and the device shown on the clip are new partitions on the middle part of the phone, and the absence of a frontal aperture for a camera. The narrator on the clip suggested that the new divisions were part of an attempt to resolve the reception problems which dogged the previous iPhone release last year.

It’s hard to tell from just this one source whether the parts were actually those of a Verizon iPhone, iPhone 5, or just a big practical joke. All of these are equally possible hypotheses. However the fact that YouTube were so quick to remove the clip suggests there is more to it than mere diversion. Let us know below about your thoughts on the leak, and what you’re hoping for when the new iPhone is finally released.
